Noseda Music Director for 4 more years at the Teatro Regio Torino

Gianandrea Noseda is going to be the Teatro Regio’s Music Director for the next four years. His name will still be associated with that of the Torinese theatre. Since 2007 Gianandrea has become the impetuous soul of all of the theatre’s artistic forces.
After the reappointment of Walter Vergnano as Intendent in July, Noseda’s confirmation is the other most important element in a management structure that has led the Regio to important success, such as their recent tour of Japan and China, which was given a triumphal welcome. Indeed, international activity is one of the Theatre’s strategic priorities.
As already announced, in 2011 the Teatro Regio Torino has been invited to Germany, Spain and France where a new partnership has been created with Théâtre des Champs Elysées. This will see the Regio perform a series of operas in concert form in the French capital over the next three years.
CD recording activity will continue to grow. A new agreement has been reached with recording companies Chandos and Ricordi-Universal to record great choral symphonic works of 20th century Italian composers including Respighi, Casella and Petrassi. Live DVD opera recording at the Regio will also continue. Right now a DVD of the Boris Godunov is being made. This production was a great success for Gianandrea Noseda.
In a few days’ time, the Regio will be involved in other important symphonic concerts. On 20th October there will be an extra-ordinary concert at Teatro degli Arcimboldi, Milan and the concert season opening concert at Teatro Regio on 21st October. The programme will include Sergej Prokofiev’s Aleksandr Nevskij cantata and Sergej Rachmaninoff’s Second symphony.
In such a difficult moment for Italian theatres, which are being starved of funds and are fighting to survive, Gianandrea Noseda’s choice is considered a double sign of trust for Teatro Regio. On the one hand, the presence as music director of one of the most distinguished conductors of his generation shows the theatre’s commitment to pursue excellence. On the other hand, this is further proof of the increased prestige of the Regio on the international stage.
Noseda will undoubtedly continue his international career which has taken him to perform as a regular guest conductor in the most important theatres and concert halls in the world in addition to his role as Principal Conductor of Spain’s Orquesta de Cadaqués (since 1998), Artistic Director of Stresa’s Settimane Musicali (since 2000), Chief Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (since 2002), and “Victor De Sabata” Guest Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (since 2010). Over the next four years, further to the activity which will see him personally involved on the conductor’s podium at Teatro Regio, Maestro Noseda will continue to be the theatre’s best ambassador to the world.
