Musical America names Gianandrea Noseda CONDUCTOR OF THE YEAR!

Gianandrea Noseda conducted the Metropolitan Opera's acclaimed production of Borodin's Prince Igor last February, and late this month and early in December he leads the first North American tour of Italy's renowned Teatro Regio Torino in Rossini's William Tell. The Milan-born conductor makes his debuts next year at the Salzburg Festival, conducting Il Trovatore, and with the Berlin Philharmonic. He is principal guest conductor of the Israel Philharmonic, Victor da Sabata guest conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony, and appears often at La Scala. He rose to prominence when Valery Gergiev appointed him principal guest conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre in 1997. He made his U.S. debut the next year and Metropolitan Opera debut in 2002. His decade beginning in 2002 at the helm of the BBC Philharmonic of Manchester, where he is now conductor laureate, is documented by nearly 40 CDs for Chandos. A decisive triumph leading the London Symphony in Britten's War Requiem at Lincoln Center in 2011 led to his debut in 2013 at the Aix-en-Provence Festival with the LSO in a new production of Rigoletto.
